The Academic Skills Lab offers free supplemental educational services to all Southeastern Community College students. Please take a moment to explore the pages above.

Facts about the Academic Skills Lab:

  • The Academic Skills Lab is certified through College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) from 2010-2015. This international certification indicates that some of the tutors in the program have received specialized training and are CRLA certified.
  • The average tutoring session lasts one hour.
  • The average tutor/tutee meeting will take place twice per week.
  • In the spring 2012 semester, the ASL tutored 173 students just over 1,420 hours and gave 335 tests.
  • 48 percent of students were tutored in mathematics, 15 percent in nursing, 11 percent in English, 9 percent in biology, 3 percent in Spanish, 3 percent in Reading and <11 percent in other areas.

All workshops are free to Southeastern Community College students. Seating is limited to 15 students per workshop and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. All workshops will be recorded. If a student is unable to attend a required workshop, they may come to the Academic Skills Lab in Nesmith Student Center, Rm. 215 at their convenience to view a recording of a completed workshop. Upon completion of a workshop, students will be given written verification to show to their Instructors for engagement hour credit.
