Clinical Medical Assistant

This course provides skills training in three competency areas related to the job performance of medical assistants: administrative office, laboratory, and clinical. Coursework includes instruction in scheduling appointments, insurance coding and billing, medical transcription, computer operations, assisting with examinations and treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, and understanding ethical and legal issues associated with patient care.

Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to apply for national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant and Electronic Health Records Specialist.

Course Requirements

  • Current Nurse Aide I listing

Medication Aide Exam Prep for Adult Care Homes

This class prepares students for the Medication Administration Exam administered by the North Carolina Division of Facility Services. Students learn policies and procedures for administering medications, including subcutaneous injections, drug interactions, and side effects. Certification enables students to work in group homes, adult care homes, assisted living facilities, or correctional facilities.

Medication Aide for Skilled Nursing Facilities

This class prepares students for the Medication Administration exam administered by Credentia. Students will learn policies and procedures for administering medications in a variety of forms and study drug interactions and side effects. The Medication Aide for skilled nursing facilities certification enables individuals to work in a skilled nursing facility. Limited seating available.

Course Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry listing

Nurse Aide I

This course is designed to prepare graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and the state-approved Nurse Aide I competency evaluation, graduates are eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide I with the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry. Please note: Criminal background checks and random urine drug screens will be completed once enrolled.

Course Requirements

To enroll in Nurse Aide courses, there are things you must do before the first class meeting.

  1. Obtain a copy of your immunization (shots) record.
  2. Obtain a physical exam from your regular doctor, health department, or urgent care.
  3. Confirm that the name on your Social Security card and current driver’s license or photo ID is an exact match. (names, spelling, punctuation, etc.)

A completed SCC health form and immunization records, social security card and current driver’s license or photo ID, and fees or a letter from financial aid is due at the first class meeting.

*You will have additional requirements once enrolled in the class.

Nurse Aide II

This course provides training in Nurse Aide II tasks. Emphasis is placed on the role of the Nurse Aide II, sterile technique, and specific tasks such as urinary catheterization, wound care, respiratory procedures, ostomy care, peripheral IV assistive activities, and alternative feeding methods. Upon completion, graduates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide II Registry. Please note: Criminal background checks and random urine drug screens will be completed once enrolled.

Course Requirements

Nurse Aide II have a high school diploma or equivalent (CCP students are exempt from this requirement) and be currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. To enroll in Nurse Aide courses, there are things you must do before the first class meeting.

  1. Obtain an official copy of your high school transcript verifying graduation, OR an official copy of your adult high school diploma, OR high school equivalency diploma.
  2. Obtain a copy of your immunization (shots) record.
  3. Obtain a physical exam from your regular doctor, health department, or urgent care.

A completed SCC health form and immunization records, social security card and current driver’s license or photo ID, proof of HS Diploma or equivalent, and fees or a letter from financial aid is due at the first class meeting.

*You will have additional requirements once enrolled in the class.

Nurse Aide I Refresher

This course is designed to provide a review of the Nurse Aide I core content to prepare individuals who have been or are currently listed on a Nurse Aide I Registry, have successfully completed a state-approved training program, hold a state-recognized healthcare credential from any state, or military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training, to sit for the Nurse Aide I State Exam. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and state-approved Nurse Aide I competency evaluation, graduates are eligible to apply for listing or relisting as a Nurse Aide I with the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry.

Nurse Aide I Refresher Requirements

You must meet one of the following requirements to enroll in this course:

  • Have a current listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry or an out-of-state Nurse Aide I Registry or
  • Have an expired NC Nurse Aide I listing within the past five years or
  • Hold a state-recognized healthcare credential from any state or
  • Are military personnel who have medical or corpsman training

The following information, as applicable, is required at the first class meeting:

  • Evidence of Nurse Aide I training program completion and expired NC Nurse Aide I listing,
  • Evidence of current out-of-state Nurse Aide I listing,
  • Evidence of out-of-state nurse aide training within the past 24 months, with no registry listing
  • Evidence of other state recognized healthcare credential
  • Evidence of listed military training

Ophthalmic Assistant

Gain the skills needed to assist an optometrist or ophthalmologist with chairside procedures, office operations, patient care, examinations, and treatments. After completing the class and working with an ophthalmologist for one year, students are eligible to test for certification.

Pharmacy Technology

This course prepares individuals with the theoretical, technical, and clinical skills needed to assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceutical care services, and other healthcare products and services for patients. Class format includes lectures, laboratory work, and clinical activities. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and the Pharmacy Technology Certification Exam (PTCE), graduates are eligible to apply for listing as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Pharmacy Technology Exam Prep

This class prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Students review the eight main areas of testing listed on the PTCB website. Eligible students include those who have completed the Pharmacy Technology course in the past five years and wish to take the exam, those with an expired PTCB certification within the past five years, or those currently employed in a pharmacy setting who plan to take the exam.

Psychiatric Technician

This course prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, therapeutic patient care to individuals who have mental health or behavioral needs. Emphasis is placed on effective, ethical care and communication within mental health settings. Successful completion of this course prepares students for the Level I American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) certification exam and entry-level positions such as Psychiatric Aide, Mental Health Technician, or Healthcare Technician working with patients who have special mental health or behavioral needs.
