Music, science and healthcare camps on deck this summer through Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search, a federally funded grant program designed to aid student growth and enrollment retention, will offer three four-day camps this summer. Music and Cinematography Camp runs from June 24 – 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., STEM Camp is July 8 – 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Camp Cardiac Care operates from July 15 – 18 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. All camps are free.

“This gives kids an opportunity to come on Southeastern Community College’s campus and give them something to do during the summer,” said Beverly Ballard, ETS counselor. “The science and music camps are amazing, and they get first aid and CPR certification in the Camp Cardiac Care.”

Music and Cinematography Camp, designed for rising 6th through 12th graders, furnishes hands-on activities that focus on songwriting, beat making, podcasting, creative writing, and shooting video. Campers will learn about careers in the music industry, copyrights, audio editing, video editing and music video production. Applications are due on June 1. A snack and pre-paid meal card for lunch will be provided daily.

STEM Camp, for rising 6th through 12th graders, provides hands-on activities that focus on biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, technology and math. Applications will be accepted through June 24. A snack and pre-paid meal card for lunch will be provided daily.

Camp Cardiac Care, designated for high school students, offers hands-on opportunities in nursing, medical laboratory technology, phlebotomy, nurse aide, EMT, CPR and first-aid training. The camp’s goal is to learn about SCC’s health career programs, and it is to foster interest in healthcare careers and prepare students for success in an allied health career.

A light breakfast and lunch are provided daily, and applications must be submitted by July 5. Funding for Camp Cardiac Care is provided in part by the South East Area Health Education Center.

ETS Counselor Dwayne Bryant said the three camps allow students from all over Columbus County to come together and interact with each other in a safe and educational environment.

All campers must complete an Educational Talent Search application and submit a copy of their report card/transcript if they are not already enrolled in the program.
