Fowler is new head of public safety department at SCC
Kevin Fowler is the new Dean of Public Safety at Southeastern Community College. In his new role, Fowler will oversee the college’s Emergency Medical Services, Basic Law Enforcement Training, Fire Academy, Prison Education and Law Enforcement programs.
Fowler holds a Bachelor of Science degree. His journey at SCC began with volunteering and teaching BLET part-time. He officially joined the college in February 2024 and previously served as the Director of Law Enforcement Programs and Prison Education.
When asked why he took on the role of Dean of Public Safety, Fowler explained, “I have always enjoyed being a part of something larger, and the possibilities here at SCC seem endless as it relates to the positive impact we can have on the community.”
Fowler was born and raised in Tabor City. He retired as a Special Agent from the U.S. Secret Service in April 2023, where he served in Charlotte, New York, Wilmington and Washington, D.C. Additionally, he served as the Deputy Director for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Office of Investigation with assignments in Atlanta, GA, and Rockville, MD.
As the Dean of Public Safety, Fowler’s main responsibilities include ensuring that SCC operates at the highest level possible to meet the needs of the community. He provides the Public Safety staff at SCC with the foundation and resources they need to achieve these goals.
Fowler shared that his favorite part of the job so far has been interacting with SCC students and staff. He is looking forward to witnessing the success of SCC students, gained through the training and education opportunities provided by the college.
Fowler emphasized the importance of Public Safety in SCC’s mission to produce a skilled workforce.
“The Public Safety Division at SCC has a direct impact on the critical infrastructure for Columbus and surrounding counties by providing training and education for the services that residents rely on daily,” he said.
When not at SCC, Fowler enjoys spending time with family and engaging in outdoor activities.
