Bee Campus

SCC is a Bee Campus!

Southeastern Community College is proud to be a certified Bee Campus USA affiliate — part of a growing national movement to support pollinators and protect the ecosystems that help us all thrive.

Pollinators like bees, butterflies, birds, and even bats help plants grow and reproduce. That includes nearly 90% of flowering plants and one-third of the food we eat. Many pollinator species are in trouble due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change. Our campus is doing its part to help.

What We’re Doing at SCC

We’ve joined Bee Campus USA to support pollinator health right here at home. Expand each section below to learn more.

Native Plants Help Pollinators Thrive

Native plants provide the food and shelter that pollinators need. We’re working to expand native planting across campus and encourage others in our community to do the same.

Want to grow your own pollinator garden? Check out the resources below.

Protecting Pollinators and the Environment with Integrated Pest Management

SCC follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to protect people, pollinators, and our local environment. As part of this approach, we take the following actions:

  • Use least-toxic pest control methods as a first option
  • Monitor pests carefully before taking action
  • Provide advance notice for any pesticide use that isn’t least-toxic
  • Keep records to improve decisions over time

Spreading Awareness Through Education and Events

SCC is committed to raising awareness about pollinator conservation through future educational opportunities and community events. While we don’t have any events currently scheduled, we’re actively planning ways to engage students and the broader community.

Interested in getting involved or sharing ideas? Reach out to our Sustainability/Bee Campus Committee. We’d love to hear from you!

Guided by Our Sustainability/Bee Campus Committee

SCC’s Sustainability/Bee Campus Committee helps guide and track our Bee Campus efforts. The committee supports native plant initiatives, promotes pollinator-friendly practices, and looks for opportunities to engage the campus and local community in environmental stewardship.

Contact information for committee members is available in the sidebar.
