Southeastern Community College (SCC) is proud to announce that Dr. Sylvia Cox, our Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, has been selected as the next President of Rockingham Community College. Dr. Cox will officially begin her new role on May 1, 2025.

Dr. Cox’s appointment is a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and community service. In a heartfelt message to the SCC family, she shared, “Working at SCC has been an incredible experience—one that has shaped me both professionally and personally. The lessons I have learned here, the friendships I have built, and the work we have done together to serve students and transform lives in Columbus County will always be a part of me.” Her deep connection to Columbus County and the impact of SCC’s supportive environment have inspired her lifelong commitment to giving back to the community.

Throughout her tenure at SCC, Dr. Cox has been a driving force behind initiatives that enhance student success and foster community development. Her leadership has helped forge a collaborative, family-like atmosphere at SCC—a place where every student is empowered to reach their full potential. As she transitions to her new role at Rockingham Community College, she remains dedicated to continuing partnerships within the North Carolina Community College System, ensuring that the region’s educational and workforce development efforts remain interconnected and strong.
