Larry Everette Receives 2026 Dr. Dan and Cheryl Moore Outstanding Staff Award
Larry Everette, High School Equivalency Examiner and Recruiter for Transitional Studies, was named the 2026 recipient of Southeastern Community College’s Dr. Dan and Cheryl Moore Outstanding Staff Award. The award recognizes a staff member who exemplifies integrity, innovation, and outstanding service to students, the college, and the wider community.
Dr. Dan Moore, former SCC president, presented the award to Everette during graduation and described him as someone who “encourages students to build brighter futures while helping to remove barriers to education.”
In his role with Transitional Studies, Everette supports students through outreach, mentoring, testing assistance, and personalized encouragement. He also works closely with students at Tabor Correctional Institution and Columbus Correctional Institution to help them prepare for and successfully complete their high school equivalency exams.
Everette said his favorite part of working in Transitional Studies is watching students reach goals they once thought were out of reach.
“That goes for both my incarcerated students and my regular on-campus students,” Everette said. “No matter their background or situation, seeing them accomplish something they once thought was out of reach is the most rewarding part of my job.”
Beyond his work in Transitional Studies, Everette is a familiar and valued presence across campus and in the community. He helps coordinate SCC’s annual Trunk or Treat event through the H.E.A.R.T.S. Foundation and uses his balloon art business to create custom decorations and displays for SCC ceremonies, campus celebrations, and community events throughout Columbus County.
“Winning the award was honestly unexpected, but I’m extremely thankful and honored to receive it,” Everette said. “Being recognized during graduation made the moment even more special because graduation is one of the biggest reminders of why I love doing what I do. It meant a lot to know that the work I put into helping our students and community is seen and appreciated.”
Everette’s passion for service, commitment to student success, and willingness to go above and beyond make him a deserving recipient of the 2026 Dr. Dan and Cheryl Moore Outstanding Staff Award.
