SCC is Columbus County’s Newest Passport Acceptance Facility
Columbus County gained a new passport application assistance option at Southeastern Community College under the direction of the SCC Foundation. The U.S. Department of State designated SCC as an official Passport Acceptance Facility.
“If you are planning international travel and are in need of a passport, we can make sure your application is processed correctly,” said Terrie Priest, SCC Foundation Executive Director. “We are excited about offering this service to our community.”
Individuals can start the process by downloading the application at travel.state.gov, printing a copy, and completing the necessary information at home. Priest emphasized that paperwork should be filled out before coming to SCC and that a passport-approved photo must accompany the application. SCC does not provide photo services at this time.
“We will make sure the application is complete, and we’ll send it to the facility in Charleston,” Priest said.
Here’s a checklist of what you need to bring for each application:
- Proof of U.S. citizenship (birth certificate, expired passport, naturalization certificate)
- Proof of identity (N.C. driver’s license, military ID or other government-issued ID)
- A recent printed 2”x2” high quality photo
- $130 (adult) or $100 (minor) for passport book fee
- $30 (adult) or $15 (minor) for passport card fee
- $35 for acceptance fee
The passport book and card fee are made payable to the U.S. Department of State with personal check, money order or cashier’s check only. The acceptance fee is made payable to the SCC Foundation with cash, debit or credit cards, personal check, cashier’s check or money order. Please bring printed copies of the front and back of your proof of U.S. citizenship and proof of identity.
“Our hope is that this service will provide more engagement opportunities with the community and generate revenue for the Foundation, specifically for our ‘area of greatest need (unrestricted) fund,’” Priest said.
The SCC Foundation will assist with passports by appointment only. Call the SCC Foundation Office at 910-788-6260 to schedule one. The SCC Foundation Office is located on the first floor of A building at SCC.
