SCC releases its 2024-2025 Annual Report
Southeastern Community College’s 2024-2025 Annual Report is a record of the college’s achievements, milestones and stats for the academic year. It features articles on the Better Skills Better Jobs initiative through NC Reconnect, Customized Training, the 2025 Commencement Ceremony, the college’s grant-funded progress, several employee and student spotlights and new programs and news spaces created on campus.
SCC welcomed four new members to the SCC Board of Trustees at the start of the academic year. SCC joined the fifth cohort of NC Reconnect, a statewide initiative designed to help adult learners return to college. SCC hosted its first ever ACCESS Open House for apprenticeships in November 2024. SCC adopted Blue Ridge Community College in a warm clothing donation drive for hurricane victims.
SCC enhanced its Customized Training program, in partnership with the North Carolina Community College System and NCEdge, to meet the unique needs of business partners in Columbus County. SCC was ranked the 12 best community college in the U.S. by SmartAsset. Through the Transitional Studies program at SCC, Tabor Correctional Institution was ranked the third highest in North Carolina for a high school equivalency test pass rate challenge that saw a 233% increase.
Duke Energy Foundation provided a $25,000 grant to SCC to strengthen workforce training programs in mechatronics and welding. SCC’s Transitional Studies program received a $35,000 Digital Navigator Grant to strengthen digital literacy skills across Columbus County. SCC received a $500,000 grant to create a licensed practical nurse to registered nurse bridge program. The EMS program received a $400,000 grant to purchase modern training equipment to produce more advanced EMS workers for Columbus County.
In May 2025, SCC and East Carolina University signed an articulation agreement for MLT graduates to transfer into ECU’s Bachelor’s degree program in Clinical Laboratory Science. SCC completed its second year of the Truck Driver Training program in partnership with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. SCC partnered with Columbus County and Schools and UNC Pembroke to sign future teacher articulation agreements with two high school seniors.
Three students: Riley Ruiz, JoAnn Bellamy and Gabrielle Formyduval were nominated for the Gov. Robert W. Scott Leadership Award, Dallas Herring Achievement Award and NCCCS Academic Excellence Award, respectively. These prestigious awards are annually presented and mark top honors for SCC students. The Annual Report features other stand-out SCC students including Markell Simmons, father and son Dale Gore and Joshua Gore, Archie Bacud and Kassidy Hinson.
SCC celebrated job promotions for Jessica Hill, Dr. Mike Ammons, Angie Ransom and Brenda Orders. Transitional Studies instructor Angela Eaker was recognized as SCC’s first Master Instructor. SCC’s Small Business Center Director Pamela Young-Jacobs won the Economic Advancement of Indian People Award from the United Tribes of North Carolina. Denise Young, Director of Apprenticeships, won the NCCCS Staff Person of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding service, leadership and commitment to the community college mission across the state.
At the May 2025 Commencement Exercises, Dawn Williamson won the T. Elbert Clemmons Excellence in Teaching Award, and Veronica Powell won the Dr. Dan and Cheryl Moore Outstanding Staff Award. Williamson is the MLT and Phlebotomy Program Director in addition to being an MLT instructor. Powell is the director of Transitional Studies.
SCC saw major renovations in the M-building hallways and bathrooms, the Beth Israel Synagogue Community Room, the SCC Salon and the Chadbourn Bell Pavilion. SCC cut the ribbon marking the grand opening of the new greenhouse for Agribusiness Technology students. The new Electrical Lineman Program received new training equipment from Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation.
