SCC summer camps promise fun, hands-on experiences for youth
Southeastern Community College has four summer options for children, middle school and high school students. These hands-on learning opportunities will have life-changing effects and provide insight on future career plans. Here are the options: high school camp, College4Kids, Discovery Camps and Educational Talent Search camps.
High School Camps
High school students graduating in 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 have six options to earn high school and college credit and industry recognized credentials from June 25 through July 30 for free. Campers can choose from agriculture, automotive, construction, engineering, healthcare exploration and welding.
Agriculture students will earn a BASF Plant Science Certificate, automotive students will earn Ford ACE Engine Performance Certification and construction students will earn OSHA 10 General Industry and Snap-On DMM certification. Engineering students will earn OSHA 10 General Industry certification, and welding students will earn OSHA 10 Construction certification. Healthcare Exploration students will be certified in CPR, First Aid, OSHA and Stop the Bleed.
Campers will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and free breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided. High school summer camps are made possible in partnership with Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools.

College4Kids
From June 16 – 19, kids ages 7 through 12 can choose from 20 classes at College4Kids. This four-day camp starts at 8 each morning and ends at noon. It costs $65 per child. Camp Director Dawn Williamson said this year’s expanded choice of classes is the best and most diverse it’s been since the camp’s revival in 2023 after a more than 20-year hiatus.
Williamson said the camp is capped at 100 kids, and she advised everyone to sign up as soon as possible. New classes for this year include dog training, fairy garden, fossil digging, microscopes, law enforcement style physical training, crocheting and CPR in addition to the usual fishing, canoeing, automotive, mini-nurse, computers, painting and more.
“A lot of people came to these camps, it stuck in their mind and they really enjoyed it,” Williamson said. “We want that to happen again, and we want kids on campus, so they’ll become familiar with the college. Hopefully, something will spark their interest and come to college here.”

Discovery Camps
Middle and high school students ages 12 through 15 have three options for free Discovery Camps in agribusiness, automotive and cosmetology. There is no lunch, but a light snack will be provided. Drop off your child in front of A-Building.
The agribusiness Green Thumbs Lab camp will focus on plant micropropagation with Venus fly traps. The first session is July 7 – 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. The second session is July 14 – 15 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The automotive Gearheads Garage will have campers learning about vehicle mechanics and maintenance through inspections, tire changes and oil changes. The first session is July 8 from 9 a.m. to noon., and the second session is July 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The cosmetology Nail Art Studio camp will teach campers about nail care and design with manicure techniques and intricate nail art. The first session is on June 26 from 9 a.m. to noon, and the second session is on July 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Educational Talent Search Camps
Educational Talent Search is offering three free camp options. Every student will receive a snack and meal card for lunch each day.
The PACE (Providing Avenues for College Education) Camp is a one-day event on June 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It focuses on high school seniors and their plan for enrolling in college. It will provide assistance in completing admission applications, financial aid applications and any other requirements for post-secondary entrance. Click here to download your application.
A Financial Literacy Camp for sixth through eighth grade students will be offered at Tabor City School or at the Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Grounds on June 30 and July 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. This camp, led by State Employees’ Credit Union staff, will teach concepts on saving, budgeting and entrepreneurship. Click here to download your application.
Camp Cardiac Care is the third option provided on July 14 – 17 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the HHS building at SCC. Campers will get hands-on training in nursing, medical lab technology, phlebotomy, nurse aide, EMT, CPR and first aid. Campers will receive official CPR certification.
