SCC’s Hannah Isenhour transitions from marketing leader to business administration instructor

After helping tell Southeastern Community College’s story for nearly three years, Hannah Isenhour is beginning a new chapter at the college as a full-time Business Administration instructor. Since joining SCC’s Marketing and Communications Department in November 2023, Isenhour has played a key role in promoting the college’s programs, supporting student recruitment efforts and strengthening community engagement.

A native of Holden Beach, N.C., Isenhour brings both academic credentials and professional experience to the classroom. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in International Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2023. She later completed a Master of Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Marketing from East Carolina University in December 2024.

Before joining SCC, Isenhour worked for Vivid Digital Media, a full-service digital marketing agency serving small businesses. She began as an advertising sales intern in April 2021 before advancing to social and digital marketing manager, a role she held until November 2023. In that position, she gained experience in social media marketing, graphic design, advertising sales and website design while helping businesses grow their online presence.

Since arriving at SCC, Isenhour has served as marketing and communications coordinator. Her responsibilities included developing marketing strategies, managing the college’s social media platforms, creating print and digital content, coordinating community outreach efforts and supporting enrollment initiatives. She also established the SCC Content Creator Program, which provided student creators and interns with hands-on marketing experience.

“When I first came to SCC in 2023, it felt like an extension of the home I had always known,” Isenhour said. “Growing up in Brunswick County, I saw a lot of similarities between the communities, and I knew I wanted to make a difference in rural North Carolina.”

While continuing her work in marketing, Isenhour began teaching as an adjunct instructor for Southeastern Community College in September 2024. She later expanded her teaching experience to Brunswick Community College and Horry Georgetown Technical College, teaching courses in business, marketing and entrepreneurship. These classroom experiences reinforced her passion for working with students and strengthened her desire to pursue teaching as a full-time career.

“I quickly fell in love with working directly with students, and those experiences strengthened my desire to pursue teaching full time,” Isenhour explained.

Isenhour said her interest in teaching developed during her time at UNC Charlotte, where she worked closely with faculty members through an internship with the Business Honors Program. Those mentors encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and provided opportunities to teach portions of classes, helping her discover a passion for higher education.

As the instructor overseeing SCC’s Business Administration program, Isenhour teaches courses in entrepreneurship, marketing, management and introductory business topics. She focuses on bringing real-world experiences into the classroom and helping students develop practical skills that will prepare them for future careers.

“My goal is for students to leave the program with more than just technical knowledge,” Isenhour said. “I want them to build the communication, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills they’ll need to be successful in whatever direction they choose to take their careers.”

In her new role, Isenhour’s days are centered around teaching, meeting with students, developing curriculum and creating learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to workplace situations. She continues to assist with some marketing and communications responsibilities while the department transitions her former duties.

Without hesitation, Isenhour identifies students as her favorite part of the job. She said she enjoys learning about their strengths, helping them identify opportunities and supporting them as they work toward their goals.

“My favorite moments are seeing something click for a student in class, learning what they’re passionate about and helping them recognize their potential,” Isenhour explained. “More than anything, I want to be someone my students trust and feel comfortable coming to, whether they need help with class, guidance on their next steps or simply someone in their corner.”

Looking ahead, Isenhour hopes to help students achieve their educational and career goals while continuing to strengthen SCC’s Business Administration program. She also hopes to build additional connections between students and community resources, including opportunities through SCC’s Small Business Center.

“Above all, I want to see my students succeed,” Isenhour said. “Whether that means earning a degree, finding a career they love, transferring to a university or starting their own business, I want to help them take the next step toward their goals.”

Outside of work, Isenhour enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling and exploring different cultures. She is a member of the UNC Charlotte Business Honors Program Alumni Network, Beta Gamma Sigma and the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations, and serves on SCC’s Small Business Center Advisory Board.

For Isenhour, the move from marketing professional to full-time instructor represents an opportunity to make a direct impact on students’ lives while helping prepare the next generation of business leaders.

“Almost three years later, I continue to choose SCC because of the people,” Isenhour said. “This community has become home to me, and I genuinely care about the students and families we serve.”
