SCC’s Samuel Sibbett Named Recipient of Statewide Academic Excellence Award
WHITEVILLE, NC – Southeastern Community College (SCC) proudly announces that Samuel Sibbett has been named SCC’s recipient of the 2026 North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Academic Excellence Award. This prestigious honor is awarded annually to one student from each of the state’s 58 community colleges in recognition of exceptional academic achievement and dedication to scholarship.
A standout student known for his discipline and commitment to academic success, Sibbett has maintained a 4.0 GPA while balancing coursework and a part-time job at a local car dealership.
Sibbett began his college journey while still in high school through SCC’s Career & College Promise program, giving him an early start on his academic goals and the confidence to continue full-time at SCC after graduation. He earned his Associate degree in Business Administration in May 2025 and is now working toward his Associate of Arts degree with plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
“The best study strategy for me is repetition and reading,” Sibbett said. “I like to read and memorize what I’m studying in my head as well as I am a more visual learner.”
In addition to his academic achievements, Sibbett works part-time at a local car dealership, where he applies classroom skills in real-world business settings through tasks such as updating books and maintaining inventory lists.
His success has also been supported by the encouragement of family and faculty who helped him stay organized and focused throughout his journey.
“My aunt Tanya Clark and cousin Hannah Clark have been very helpful in helping me to get organized and plan my activities, so they get completed without overwhelming me,” Sibbett said.
One of the moments that made him most proud during his time at SCC was being selected as a Marshal for graduation, a reflection of the hard work and dedication he has invested in his education.
Following graduation, Sibbett plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete his bachelor’s degree in accounting and pursue a career in business or finance. He also hopes to use his education to support nonprofit organizations and strengthen the community through financial stewardship.
SCC celebrates Sibbett’s achievement as a reflection of the college’s commitment to student success, academic excellence, and opening doors to future opportunities.
