SCC transfer students gain optimized path to Western Carolina University with Connect program
Streamlining the student transfer process even more, Southeastern Community College’s partnership with Western Carolina University makes for a “smooth transition” in the WCU Connect program. WCU describes it as “a student-focused guaranteed admission program that provides early-access opportunities for student earning their four-year degree.” As an NC Promise institution, WCU provides an affordable $500 per semester tuition rate for SCC students.
“We are proud to partner with Western Carolina University through their Connect guaranteed admission program for community college transfer students,” said Dr. Brandon Jenkins, SCC Executive Vice President. “Opportunities such as WCU Connect guarantee that access to quality and affordable higher education is never out of reach of Columbus County residents. This partnership is yet another tool in SCC’s toolbox to help ensure that all of our students are able to reach their academic and career goals.”
Students who enroll in the WCU Connect program while still at SCC can benefit from major-specific academic advising, a personal WCU admission counselor, access to Hunter Library textbook rentals and study spaces, admission to select athletic events and campus speakers, priority orientation registration, a 10% discount at the WCU Bookstore and an exclusive WCU Connect Card.
Transfer students with a cumulative collegiate GPA of 3.5 or higher will be automatically invited to join WCU’s prestigious Brinson Honors College. This honor includes guaranteed transfer of up to 12 hours of honors-level credit, eligibility from NC Community College honors programs or institutions that are members of the National Collegiate Honors Council, and enhanced opportunities for academic distinction and leadership. Students must accept their invitation upon WCU enrollment.
“It is exciting that students will now have this connection with Western Carolina when beginning their SCC college classes,” said Julia Roberts, SCC Student Counselor. “This new agreement added to SCC’s list of university agreements will give students an additional way to keep informed about the next steps for successful transfer.”
Roberts explained that participating students receive benefits including one-on-one advisement from a university representative who can recommend the best courses to meet transfer requirements. She said this guidance helps students stay focused on their transfer goal and stay motivated to follow through and complete their bachelor’s degree.
“It’s great to see SCC alumni and hear they now have a bachelor or master’s degree,” Roberts said. “With this agreement, we’ll hear even more success stories.”
