White brings two decades of healthcare expertise to SCC nursing instructional staff
Christa White, a veteran nurse and former manager, joined the nursing instructional staff at Southeastern Community College in January 2025. A Whiteville native, White brings years of experience in labor and delivery nursing to the classroom, where she is now focused on shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.
White graduated high school from Columbus Christian Academy in 2001, and she graduated from SCC, earning an associates degree in nursing in 2004. Shortly after, she began her career at Columbus Regional Healthcare System, where she worked in labor and delivery for nearly two decades. During her time there, White moved up the ranks, starting as a staff nurse before taking on an assistant director position in 2010.
White earned her bachelors degree in nursing in 2015 from the University of Phoenix, and she was promoted to manager of labor and delivery in 2019, a role she held until December 2024. White is currently working on her masters degree in nursing education at UNC Wilmington.
“I’ve always felt a deep connection to my community, and SCC is my community’s college,” White said. “I’m passionate about contributing to the success of local students by helping them achieve their educational goals.”
At SCC, White is teaching NUR 112: Health and Illness Concepts, where she plans to use dynamic teaching methods to engage students. “I enjoy creating an interactive classroom environment, using strategies like flipped classrooms and games to make learning both effective and fun,” she explained.
White is enthusiastic about mentoring students, especially those who face significant challenges. “Many of our students persevere through tough situations to achieve their dreams,” she said. “Watching their growth and seeing those ‘Aha!’ moments when complex concepts click is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching.”
Her love for nursing education aligns with her long-term career goals. After transitioning from clinical nursing to teaching, White said she is excited to contribute to the growing need for qualified nurses in the community.
“It’s a great way to continue making a meaningful impact in healthcare while finding a different pace compared to acute care,” she said.
When she’s not in the classroom, White enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband, Brandon White, have five children: Raven, Savannah, Ava, Jaxon, and Anna-Kathryn. Much of her free time is devoted to supporting their extracurricular activities such as karate and gymnastics.
As SCC welcomes White to its nursing instructional staff, she is confident that her wealth of experience and passion for teaching will inspire students for years to come.
