These hands-on experiences allow students to explore real career pathways in high-demand fields, gain practical skills, and build confidence. Whether you’re considering a career in manicuring, healthcare, or public safety, our summer courses offer an opportunity to learn in a supportive, engaging environment and get a head start on what comes next.

Mandatory Orientation

All students registered for summer courses are required to attend a mandatory orientation.

Course Description

Manicuring I provides instruction in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails) and pedicuring. The course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage

Course Eligibility

  • Student must be 16 years of age
  • Must have a GED or High School diploma to test with NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts

Cost

  • Black scrubs, black socks, and black shoes
  • Malpractice insurance and ID – $20.55

Certification costs (deferred to the fall semester):

  • Certification exams – $168 total
    • Practical exam – $84
    • Written exam – $84

Students who complete this camp will receive the following industry-recognized credential:

  • NC Nurse Aide I Certification

Course Description

The Nurse Aide curriculum prepares individuals to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals in performing nursing care and services for persons of all ages. Topics include growth and development, personal care, vital signs, communication, nutrition, medical asepsis, therapeutic activities, accident and fire safety, household environment and equipment management, family resources and services, and employment skills. Upon completion, the student may be eligible for listing as a Nurse Aide I and other selected Nurse Aide registries as determined by the local program of study.

Course Eligibility

  • Students must be 16.5 years old by the first day of class
  • Must have their own transportation to campus and clinical site
  • Must submit to a background check and drug screen at their own expense
  • Must be able to meet all health requirements (physical and immunizations).

Students are not allowed to miss any class or clinical time per state regulations. Attendance for all hours of class, lab, and clinical are mandatory.

Cost

Students are responsible for health requirements and shoes.

This course introduces prefixes, suffixes, and word roots used in the language of medicine. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Upon completion, students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.

Date: June 24 – July 29, 2026

Time: Online

Course Eligibility

Prerequisite: Medical Terminology I

This course is the second in a series of medical terminology courses. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems. Upon completion, students should be able to pronounce, spell, and define medical terms as related to selected body systems and their pathological disorders.

Date: June 10 – July 29, 2026 | Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

Time: 9:00am – 4:30pm

Students who complete this camp will receive the following industry-recognized credential:

  • Emergency Medical Technician with the North Carolina Office of EMS

Course Description

This course introduces basic emergency medical care. Topics include preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical emergencies, trauma, infants and children, and operations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve North Carolina State or National Registry EMT certification

Course Eligibility

  • Students must be 17 years old by the last day of class
    • If the student passes the state exam, NC OEMS will hold the credential until the student turns 18

  • CPR card: $6.00

Students are responsible for health requirements.
