SCC’s Arturo Jones joins prestigious industrial technology advisory board at ECU
Arturo Jones, an electrical engineering instructor at Southeastern Community College, recently joined the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Advisory Board at East Carolina University. Jones, a graduate school student working towards his Master of Science degree in Occupational Safety, said that serving on this advisory board is a meaningful milestone that brought his career to a full circle.
“I just wrapped up my first year of teaching at Southeastern Community College,” Jones said. “After completing my master’s degree, I plan to earn a PhD at ECU.”
Jones said the BSIT program transformed his career, and he has the chance to contribute to shaping its future. His goal is to expose students to career options in the electrical engineering field and inspire them to follow the same, or even better, path that he chose.
“I’m committed to sharing my journey, offering mentorship and providing real-world insight so they can reach their goals with confidence,” Jones said.
Jones’ areas of expertise include:
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician
- Equipment maintenance
- Equipment installation
- Electrical and Electronic Systems Technologies
- Problem identification and solution development
- Shared leadership and governance
- Private pilot certificate
“As a graduate of the BSIT program and a current master’s student at ECU, I’m truly honored to serve in this capacity and contribute to the continued development of the program,” Jones said.
According to ECU’s website, the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Transfer Program is a degree-completion curriculum designed for students who have earned a qualified Associate in Applied Science degree in an industrial or technical discipline. This program offers a flexible curriculum that can be tailored to align with their AAS and their individual career trajectory.
“As a passionate advocate for student success, Arturo has experienced firsthand how the BSIT program transformed his career path,” said Dr. David Batts, Associate Professor at ECU in the Department of Technology Systems. “His energy, insight and commitment make him a rising star at Southeastern — and now, a valuable addition to our board. We’re thrilled to have Arturo on board and look forward to the enthusiasm and perspective he will bring to our continued work in advancing the BSIT program.”
