Educational Talent Search

About the Program

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally funded TRIO program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. It serves students in grades 6–12 throughout Columbus County, helping them graduate from high school and continue their education after graduation.

ETS provides free services to participants, including career, academic, and financial literacy counseling; college campus visits; and cultural enrichment activities. Students also receive assistance with:

  • College entrance exam preparation
  • Financial aid applications
  • College admissions applications

Schools Served

ETS serves the following schools in Columbus County:

  • Central Middle School
  • East Columbus Jr./Sr. High School
  • West Columbus School
  • South Columbus High School
  • Tabor City Middle School
  • West Columbus High School
  • Whiteville High School

Application Process

Students attending one of the schools served by Southeastern Community College ETS who are interested in joining the program should contact their guidance counselor or the ETS office directly.

The Educational Talent Search program will host three camps this summer. All camps are free to students. Enrollment is limited in all camps, so students are encouraged to enroll early. A snack and a meal card for lunch will be provided daily.

Tutoring Information

Current ETS participants interested in receiving free tutoring should contact their coordinator to make a request. All tutoring must be pre-approved by the ETS office.
