SCC Foundation set to ‘rock the yacht’ at annual spring fundraiser

Get ready to ride the waves at the Southeastern Community College Foundation’s “Rams Rock the Yacht” annual spring fundraiser. Benefiting the RamsFund, this event sets sail at 7 p.m. on March 21 at Union Valley Farm and Vineyard. SCC Foundation Executive Director Terrie Priest promises a casual evening of fun, dancing, food and yacht rock music.

“With this being our biggest fundraiser of the year, everyone’s support will contribute to the college’s area of greatest need,” Priest said. “Whether it’s supporting student outreach, scholarships, a campus program, our mini grant program, creating a new program or supporting athletics, this is the one fundraiser that touches the entire campus.”

Be sure to wear your dancing shoes for fun, Yacht Rock favorites provided by Camel City Yacht Club and be sure to bring your appetite for the cocktail dinner buffet. Yacht Rock is a smooth, feel-good genre of music that blends soft rock, pop, and R&B hits from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

SCC President Dr. Chris English is looking forward to dancing to the music because of the fun and familiar songs that set the mood for a great evening. Ready to “dance the night away,” English said this fun, less formal atmosphere is perfect people looking to support a great cause while enjoying great food and music.

“Any time we can support the Foundation is a good thing,” English said. “When we can support it and celebrate it at the same time at an event like this, it’s even better.”

New to this year’s fundraiser is a $5,000 grand prize reverse raffle. Can’t make it to the event on March 21? No problem because Priest said that anyone can purchase a ticket for the reverse raffle for $75.

“While the band is playing and everyone is having a good time, we will be doing a reverse raffle drawdown with only 200 tickets sold,” Priest said. “So, when the last five tickets are about to be drawn, we’ll gather near the stage and count down to the winner. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

In addition to the reverse raffle, there will be a silent auction for guests to win some prizes from local vendors. There are seven sponsorship level options ranging from $5,000 to $500.

“This spring fundraiser is going to be a little different than any we’ve had in the past,” Priest said. “This is in line with previous President’s Balls, but this one is a little more casual, fun and has a really cool theme.”

Come dressed as a ship captain or keep it breezy for a yacht club excursion. Priest said that anything from casual attire to a formal tuxedo or dress is acceptable at the event. Think Gilligan’s Island or Love Boat, Priest said, and make it a smooth nautical style from the 1970s or 1980s featuring stripes, polo shirts, Hawaiian shirts, white pants, shorts, loafers and aviator sunglasses.

Priest said there are several ticket admission options available for couples and singles. The base level single ticket admission price is $50, and a base level couples’ ticket is $100. Admission tickets that include one reverse raffle ticket for a single is $125 and couple is $175.

Additional ways to support the Foundation are through the engraved brick sale where bricks are continuously added to the SCC Bell Pavilion and through the passport service on campus. All proceeds go to the RamsFund.
