Southeastern Community College provides fire and rescue training for both current firefighters and individuals seeking initial certification. Courses are offered locally to support fire departments and emergency response personnel throughout Columbus County and the surrounding region.
Training includes certification and re-certification courses approved by the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission, along with specialized classes that address evolving safety standards and emerging technologies. All courses are designed to meet the requirements established by the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission for firefighter and technical rescuer certification. Classes are registered separately, allowing students to enroll in individual courses as needed.
Certification Requirements
- Must have high school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age for certification in North Carolina
- Minimum 80% attendance required to test for certification
- Passing score of 70% required on both written and hands-on practical examinations
- Certification application must be submitted to the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission
