(Dates Subject to Change)
Your financial aid award is based on full-time enrollment. If you take less than 12 credit hours, your aid may be reduced or eliminated.
If you do not plan to attend Southeastern, you must withdraw from classes prior to the scheduled start date of the class or you will be charged tuition and fees. If you do not withdraw from classes prior to the first day of class, you will still be obligated for tuition even if you do not attend classes.
By using Self Service at SCCNC.edu, you can access your financial aid offer or any documents needed.

Refund checks will be mailed approximately 5–6 weeks after the beginning of the semester (date may be subject to change). Late start classes may affect your actual reimbursement date. If you have classes that begin later in the semester, your refund will be delayed. If you withdraw from any classes, you may not be eligible for additional aid for late starting classes.
You may view the Offer Letter in Self-Service, and no response means you agree that you have read and will comply with the following policies regarding your financial aid offer at Southeastern Community College. Failure to meet the requirements may result in you having to repay funds and being denied future financial aid. If you choose not to accept this offer, please notify the Financial Aid Office by emailing [email protected].
Future Financial Aid is conditional on your maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA, minimal withdrawals, and avoiding taking excessive classes. See the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy in the Student Handbook for additional information.
Conditions of Your Offer
- The Financial Aid Office reserves the right, on behalf of the College, to review and cancel an award at any time because of errors, changes in financial or academic status, or changes in your academic program. If an overpayment occurs, the student is responsible for reimbursing the College.
- Recipients of financial assistance from the College MUST notify the Student Financial Aid Office of any grants, scholarships, etc., extended to them from sources outside the College, as these may reduce the financial aid award. Also, any change in name, address or student status must be reported to the Financial Aid Office and the Registrar’s Office.
- Financial aid offers are based on a student’s financial need. Information that is reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to calculate a Student Aid Index (SAI). Financial aid awards are calculated, based on the following equation: Cost of Attendance – SAI = Financial Need. Costs of attendance (COA) figures are available in the SCC College Catalog and Student Handbook found on the website at https://sccnc.edu/admissions/registration-records/college-catalogs/. Other scholarships or resources are also subtracted from the COA to determine need.
- Financial aid is awarded contingent upon enrollment in an eligible program and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. The SCC College Catalog provides information about these policies. A copy of the Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements for Financial Aid Recipients is also available from the Financial Aid Office.
- Financial aid is generally offered based on full-time enrollment. Offers may be reduced or eliminated based on part-time enrollment. Enrollment status for all semesters including Summer is defined as full-time (12 or more hours), and less than 12 hours is a based on percentage of full-time status. Adjustments are made to the financial aid award amount according to enrollment status and student eligibility each semester. Students must enroll at least half-time for most N.C. State Grant programs.
- Students who find it necessary to drop or add classes or to withdraw from the College must notify the Student Financial Aid Office. Payment of financial aid is based on the recipient’s enrollment status at the 10 percent point of the class length.
- Financial aid will only pay for 30 remedial or developmental hours. Financial aid will pay only once for repeated classes that you have passed and are retaking for a better grade.
- Any commitment of Federal/State/Institutional Funds is tentative and contingent upon subsequent Congressional appropriation and actual receipt of the funds by Southeastern Community College.
- Distance Learning Courses: Distance education courses are treated the same as other courses under financial aid rules. Students enrolled in distance and e-learning courses offered by Southeastern must complete the online orientation by the deadlines announced each semester. If orientation is not completed, students will be automatically removed or purged from course rosters, and consequently may have a reduction in their financial aid offer.
- Transient Students: SCC students taking classes at other colleges may be eligible for financial aid. Students must complete a SCC Consortium Agreement and have permission from their Department Chairs to take off-campus classes. Consortium Agreements are available at the Financial Aid Office or on eForms.
- Federal Pell Grant: Pell Grant offers are based on students’ enrollment status each semester. (See Item #5.) Students may charge tuition, fees, books and supplies against their offer. Those charges are deducted from the Pell Grant offer and a refund check is issued for the balance. Pell may also be available for summer school if you meet year-round Pell stipulations.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): Funds are very limited and are awarded to students who show the most financial need as indicated by completing the FAFSA.
- Federal Work Study (FWS): If your offer letter includes employment under the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP), the amount shown for this category is the maximum amount of money you may expect to earn during the academic year as a result of work performed. Students are paid hourly and will be issued a check on the last day of each month for work performed during the prior month. Contact the Financial Aid Office concerning Federal Work-Study job placement or review the Federal Work-Study page on the SCC website.
- Scholarships: Students may be allowed to charge tuition, fees, books, etc. against their scholarships. If the individual scholarship guidelines allow, the recipient will be issued a check each term for the balance of the scholarship after the charges have been deducted. Most scholarships require full-time enrollment.
- Federal Refund Policy: Students that receive Title IV aid (Pell Grant, SEOG) and then stop attending all, or a portion of classes before the 60% point of the term may owe a portion of those funds back to SCC or the Department of Education. Owing funds to the college could affect your ability to enroll in future courses and/or obtain future aid. It is strongly recommended that you check with the Financial Aid Office prior to withdrawing from any classes.
- Next NC Scholarship (NCNBG): Funds are awarded by College Foundation Inc. The amount is based on the value of the student aid index (SAI) and enrollment status. Complete information can be obtained at the CFNC website, cfnc.org. Most grants require at least half-time enrollment.
- Students may charge tuition, fees, books and supplies against their offer (based on offer guidelines). Those charges are deducted from their offer. If extra funds remain, a refund check will be issued for the balance.
Additional information can be obtained from the Financial Aid web page, the SCC Student Catalog and Handbook, and the SCC Consumer Information page on the SCC website at sccnc.edu.
