Summer sizzles at SCC with high school and youth camps and classes

Southeastern Community College is the place to be this summer with camps, classes and activities for high school, middle school and elementary school students. Whether it’s earning course credit for a curriculum program, learning a new skill or making good use of a fun and productive summer, SCC has something for everyone.

We are really proud of and excited for the educational opportunities provided by our summer camps here at Southeastern,” said Dr. Brandon Jenkins, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer. “Our camp opportunities are diverse in experiences and allow young people, as young as 7, to experience learning on a community college campus.”

Summer Courses

“Students who take these classes are taking a proactive approach to their education by taking classes during a lower stress time like their summer break,” said Career and College Promise Advisor Lynn Leonard. “I want the students to take advantage of their summer break and relax, but this time gives them a chance to take a class when they’re not under pressure or rushing everywhere.”

The following courses are for graduating seniors and rising juniors and seniors interested in careers in manicuring, healthcare or public safety.

  • Manicuring I – Runs from June 10 through July 29, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:12 p.m.
  • Nurse Aide I – While earning a N.C. Nurse Aide I Certification, this course runs from June 8 through July 29.
  • Emergency Medical Technician – While earning an Emergency Medical Technician with the North Carolina Office of EMS, this class runs from June 10 through July 29, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Transfer Classes

“This gives the students a big headstart when they are dual-enrolled,” Leonard explained. “When these classes are tuition-free, it really helps those parents who are footing the bill for their child at a larger college or university. It’s a win-win for everybody involved because students can start their career even sooner.”

SCC will offer transferrable courses in English, math, biology, anatomy, statistics and more in both online and in-person formats. These courses are designed to satisfy general education course requirements at four-year institutions.
