Workforce & Continuing Education classes offer several financial assistance programs to help you get the training you need for a new career. Funding opportunities vary depending on your program and eligibility.
Golden LEAF Scholarship
The Golden LEAF Scholarship supports students and their families by offering annual scholarships of up to $1,850 for continuing education students. Funds may cover tuition, fees, books, credential exams, childcare, and transportation.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a North Carolina resident.
- Reside in a qualifying county as determined by Golden LEAF. View the list of qualifying counties on the Golden LEAF website.
- Be enrolled in a course that trains toward credentials listed on the Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) Credentials List.
SECU Bridge to Career Program
The State Employees’ Credit Union Bridge to Career Program helps remove financial barriers for students seeking a Workforce Continuing Education credential at their local community college. Scholarships may be used for registration fees, course fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare, and other related costs.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a North Carolina resident.
- Be enrolled or enrolling in a course leading to an NC Workforce Credential. See the NC Workforce Credentials List.
- Belong to one of the following target groups:
- Unemployed or underemployed individuals
- Members of the North Carolina National Guard
- Military veterans or their spouses
- Individuals from underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area
Short-Term Workforce Development Grant (STWD)
The Short-Term Workforce Development (STWD) Grant supports eligible Workforce Continuing Education students pursuing high-demand, family-sustaining wage credentials. Scholarships may cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare, and other related costs, up to a maximum of $750 per course.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a resident of North Carolina. Residency can be verified through the NC Residency Determination Service.
- Be enrolled in Workforce Continuing Education (WCE) pathways or courses leading to an NC Workforce Credential identified as essential or career level.
- Eligible credentials are listed on the NC Workforce Credentials List.
SCC Foundation Scholarship
The Continuing Education Foundation Funds (CEFF) provide scholarships for students enrolled in a Workforce Continuing Education course of 96 hours or more.
Scholarships may be used for registration fees, course fees, books, and supplies.
